Priska von Martin

With its head slightly inclined, the horse seems to be perusing the Doric column on the beach. Priska von Martin deploys this classical design motif which she adopted for her sculptures and places it in a new context. The fragment of the classical column, which shows signs of decay as in other of von Martin's sculptures, contrasts with the agile horse next to it. Von Martin's graphic art, which features throughout each of her creative periods, is characterised by the figure, the vitality of the body and transformation leading to decay.
