About the object
As a symbol of Christ, the statue is carrying the lamb of God on a book. It statue originally stood in the shrine of a smaller winged altar, perhaps in the Minster of the Holy Cross in Rottweil. The figure's counterpart, John the Evangelist, is situated in Stuttgart. Both may well have flanked a statue of the Madonna.
