Apron

About the object

Apron comprising mainly shell money beads. These aprons were part of a bride's festive outfit. The use of shell money in a marriage is obvious, as it was the occasion for the exchange of highly valuable goods between the participating families. Today, these aprons can only be found in museums. They no longer exist on the island of Manus, where they came from originally.
