About the object

Drum with pointed opening at the bottom typical of the Papua Gulf region in New Guinea. This item has been very well preserved, even the braided tape for fixing the skin is still present. The drums were played at ceremonies, the carved decorations inlaid with chalk represent mythical or otherworldly beings.
