During the clean-up work in the Baseler Hof, which was destroyed in the air raid in 1944, this round lead capsule with astrological engravings and small sculptural figures, which combine to make a hitherto undeciphered horoscope, was found underneath the main entrance. It was apparently buried in the wall during construction as a good luck charm.
Handed down since antiquity, belief in the influence of heavenly bodies on human destiny was widespread in humanist circles. The architect of the Baseler Hof, Konrad Stürtzel von Buchheim also belonged to these circles. The lawyer was chancellor of the University of Freiburg on two occasions and was also Chancellor to Maximilian I.
