About the object
The panel is from the Günterstal Cistercian monastery near Freiburg. It features an episode from the life of St Bernhard involving a miracle. In 1124, the founder of the order and abbot of the Clairvaux convent converted knights, who were bound for a tournament, through a consecrated potion. Now peace-loving men, they joined the monastery.
