The portrait of Marie Buisson (d. 1871) seems almost photorealistic in its execution. It was painted on an ivory support using a fine brush. The delicate flesh tones of the young woman's face and her light brown eyes contrast with the dark background. The portrait forms a pair together with the portrait of her husband, Heinrich Buisson.
