Three-quarter Length Portrait of a Nun, 1800 - 1850
About the object
The nun, who is wearing the habit of the Ursuline Order replete with a black wimple, is very young. She looks out of the portrait with large, gentle eyes. For whom was the small-format portrait intended? Perhaps it was a souvenir for her parents, whom she would rarely have seen after she entered the convent.
