About the object
Maria Gertrude von Wessenberg (1786-1855), née Muhlens, was a Frankfurt banker's daughter. She was married to the diplomat Johann von Wessenberg (1773-1858). Although the couple's union was initially regarded by those around them as unbefitting of their status, they nevertheless enjoyed a long and happy marriage.
