Boat
1900 - 1910
About the object
This outrigger boat is carved from a single tree trunk and was used for coastal fishing. Both front and back are carved in the same way, with the effect that the boat can be rowed in either direction. The outrigger stabilises the hull, thus preventing it from capsizing. Affixed mouldings originally adorned the bow and stern. There is enough space for one person and the boat is rowed using paddles.
