Christian Wentzinger

Model of the Rodtian Tomb, 1743

About the object

The four sons of General Franz Joseph Christoph von Rodt commissioned Christian Wentzinger to design a tomb for their father after his death in 1743. The model was sent to the actual client, the Prince-Bishop of Constance, Franz Konrad von Rodt in his residence in Meersburg. The monument was made in 1744. The model was preserved by the clients in Meersburg and was used as a gravestone in the cemetery there in the 19th century. The model has sustained much damage in the course of this action.
