About the object

The bridal crown, or »Schäppel« as it is known in the Black Forest, symbolises purity and is also a status symbol. The wealth of the bride's family was commensurate with its size. Bridal crowns resemble 18th century Marian crowns in their elegance and delicate craftsmanship. The designs vary from area to area.
