Carafe
1852
About the object
The wine carafe corresponds to a Baden measure. Skittle-shaped bottles of this kind were used for serving wine. The various measures were calibrated in the 19th century according to the measures used in taverns: measure, half measure, »Schoppen« and »Halbschoppen«. However, it was not until 1812 that the measures were introduced by decree throughout the territory of the Grand Duchy of Baden.
