Trophy
Clay eagle vessel with escutcheon, 16. Jahrhundert
About the object
The eagle-shaped vessel with removable head was used as a goblet. Supposedly, it comes from the Freiburg town hall and could have been a gift from the rulers. The breast of the eagle is covered in the red & white “Bindenschild” crest. It is the coat of arms of the house of Austria. As Freiburg belonged to the hereditary lands of the Habsburgs, the crest can be seen on many public buildings of the city.
