About the object
Kirner studied the individual figures in his preparatory drawings before he introduced them into the given painting. With precise strokes and fine white highlights, the posture and the ascending trajectory of the figure leading into painting and placed on the edge of the group to the left of Italienische Wallfahrer (Italian Pilgrims), are captured here. He elaborated the posture of the arm and hand in a number of detailed studies.
