Gargoyle: Knight representing one of the Seven Deadly Sins - Pride, um 1310
About the object
Clad in chain mail, wearing a tunic and equestrian spurs, the knight embodies pride, one of the Seven Deadly Sins, the root of all evil and the beginning of sin. The sense of elation felt by knights as the privileged upper class, as described in the Middle Ages, was taken to be arrogance, false pride or hybris.
