About the object
The gigantic sculptures, originally eleven in number, stood under canopies at the four corner spurs of the Freiburg Minster Tower octagon about 50 m above the ground. Ten of the extremely narrow and ascetic-looking, elongated male figures, commonly referred to as prophets, have survived. Almost all carry banners in their hands as a reference to their prophetic messages. The figures from the Old Testament cannot be identified by name, with the exception of the horned Moses. The only young figure among them has been identified as King David.
