About the object

This figure was - as three of the other so-called 'Dukes of Freiburg' - originally positioned in the base zone of the Minster tower. Two faced west, one faced north and one faced south. They are thought to be renderings of the city elders, the Dukes of Freiburg. The oldest carries a sword, probably Konrad I, embodying judicial power. Copies now replace the originals in their positions on the Minster.
