Virgin Mary from a Vesper Statue , 1330/40
About the object
The figure, fragmented in the area of the feet, comes from the Minster of Our Lady in Radolfzell at Lake Constance. The associated body of Christ is missing. For a long time, the Radolfzell Pietà was the oldest extant Vesperbild in southwestern Germany. Mary's bloodshot eyes are her most impressive feature.
