Virgin Mary from a Vesper Statue, 1330/40

About the object

The figure comes from the Minster of Our Lady in Radolfzell at Lake Constance. The area around the feet and the body of Christ, which goes with it, are missing. For a long time, the Radolfzell Pietà was the oldest extant Pietà (Vesperbild) in southwestern Germany. Mary's bloodshot eyes are her most impressive feature.
