720 - 680 v.Chr.

About the object

This finely crafted bronze figure depicts a striding god who is naked except for an apron and a shoulder collar. The attributes it once held in its hands have not survived. On its head, the figure is wearing a covering with a recess into which a feather crown, cast separately, could be inserted. The deity shown here is Amun. Since the time of the New Kingdom, he was worshipped as king of the gods and world ruler in the form of a human or a ram. His being is mysterious. He is purported to have had an invigorating effect by means of a breath of wind that cannot be seen, but is perceived, hence his name: the Hidden One.
