Bottle

About the object

Bottle made out of a coconut and covered with putty. Bottles of this kind were used as containers for water or oil. Coconut oil was a much-coveted commodity on the Admiralty Islands. Large quantities were collected in a specially prepared container and distributed to the bride's family at a wedding. The oil could be transported in the small bottles. The Admiralty Islanders refer to coconut oil as »money«.
