A gallant gentleman embraces his beloved and holds the mirror in front of her. Holding a pair of eyeglasses, she turns her head towards him. The oversized eagle embodies visual acuity. The "Five Senses" cycle of paintings takes up an allegorical theme common in the Baroque period. In this instance, love remains the trump card.
