Evincing rapid brush strokes and an animated application of paint, the artist sketches the child's head-and-shoulders portrait in an almost turned-away profile. The pinned-up, braided hair, reveals the bare neck and throat. Enhanced by the gentle tilt of her head and the slightly lowered viewing angle, her cheek and neck are exposed, whereby the portrait visually embraces the child.
