About the object

Karl Hauptmann made numerous paintings of Black Forest landscapes in winter. Starting from his mountain cabin on the Herzogenhorn and with his easel on his back, he undertook many excursion in the area. Drawing in such icy and snowy conditions placed particularly high demands on his powers of endurance and stamina.
