Monika Baer

By affixing coins onto the eponymous "Street" which is visualised in a mist of paint, Monika Baer's work fuses a symbolic element and the haptically concrete: money is nothing more than the mere material of painting, which thus shows itself as a thing to be questioned, and yet immediately raises questions about the material value of art. Baer herself describes her paintings as performances in which she - like a theatre director - investigates the form in which these things themselves appear. Thus, her motifs, which she calls actors, can be read as a kind of vocabulary that circulates in her series of paintings.
