About the object

As a stamp on the reverse shows, this painting was exhibited at Bücken's estate exhibition at the Suermondt Museum in Aachen (now the Suermondt-Ludwig Museum) in 1915. Unfortunately, the painting has a pronounced craquelure (i.e. cracks in the paint). Could the sitter be Bücken's wife, Clothilde?
