Maria Fridolina came from an old Swabian noble family. As a note on the back of the painting explains, she married Friedrich Franz Freiherr von Krafft – whom her father Conrad Anton Ebing von der Burg had recently adopted – in August 1808. It is possible that the portraits were painted to mark the couple's wedding.
