About the object

The Freiburg merchant was fifty-one years old when Dürr painted him and his wife in two portraits that relate to one another. The bodies of the couple are turned towards each other, their hands visibly corresponding in the respective compositions, while their heads are turned towards the viewer. Their postures and apparel bear witness to the prosperity they have achieved.
