Marcus Valerius Corvu, um 1586
About the object
In a duel with a Gaul, Marcus Valerius received support from the gods. They sent him a raven to help him, which, with every blow of Marcus Valerius’ sword, added further injury to his opponent. After his victory over the Gaul, the Roman hero and preserver of the empire was given the nickname “Corvus” (Latin for raven).
