Mucius Scaevola, um 1586
About the object
When Mucius Scaevola wanted to kill King Porsenna, he was threatened with a trial by fire. Mucius then stretched out his right hand into the fire until it was completely burnt. His steadfastness won him his freedom, and the siege of Rome was also ended. His nickname “Scaevola” means left-handed.
