About the object
The motif of an overmodelled skull from Kararan in Papua New Guinea, copied in watercolour, is freed from its cultural and historical context and placed in a universal context. Herbert Maier's project "who we are" is dedicated to the question of human identity. In his Visual Library, Maier has included images that have been stored in memory as an individual or collective cultural legacy. The result is a cultural history of humanity from the perspective of a contemporary painter.
