About the object
The painter caricatured here, Philipp von Foltz (alternative spellings: Volz/Voltz) was a member of Kirner’s circle from their early days. They studied together at the Munich Academy and were later in Rome at the same time. The experienced slapstick comedy of a joint excursion is recorded here, during which the so-called “natural scientist” was frightened by a frog.
