About the object
Another variant of the mother-child group would suggest that this complex mother-child constellation in the painting Italienische Wallfahrer (Italian Pilgrims) might have presented Kirner with a few compositional headaches. It cannot necessarily be associated with the painting as such, but it can be understood as a preliminary stage of the overall figural motif.
