Johann Baptist Kirner
Kneeling Italian woman holding a praying girl, vor 1834
About the object
This pencil drawing of a seated woman with a prostrate girl stretched across her lap in the painting Italienische Wallfahrer (Italian Pilgrims) is still very much a sketch. Yet the entire figure, as yet not covered in the drawing, is captured cohesively in its structure and rotation. On the right-hand edge, the girl's bare foot appears, which better explains her reclining posture.
