About the object
The ruins, which are now considered a landmark of the region, sit atop a very steep hill. The castle, also called Schloss Küssenberg, was largely destroyed during the Thirty Years' War. In Morat's time, the first measures to restore the castle were initiated. The signposts, in the foreground on the left of the composition, testify to the fact that the castle was already a landmark in the locality.
