Icarus aimed too high. When he gets too close to the sun, his wax wings melt and he is punished, plunging to his death. Goltzius places the violently gesticulating falling figures in an “open” space with the greatest possible plasticity. His focus is on the human body, which he exaggerates to an excessive degree.
