Kirner’s Farewell in Rome, 1839 - 1841
About the object
The preparatory study to Kirner’s Farewell in Rome - arrival in Munich 1839 sketches the left section of the painting with the farewell scene in Rome. Kirner’s artist friends are outlined in casual strokes and can be found again in the same style on the pen lithograph. The incomplete figure study of a man from Hotzenwald on the back of the paper was drawn for Kirner’s painting Prize-giving from 1841.
