About the object
Maria is the patroness of the Freiburg Minster and stands for the church as a community of the faithful in a figurative sense. Her most venerable representation is positioned on the triangular pediment above the tower vestibule. Christ blesses his mother as she ascends to heaven and is crowned. Copies now replace the originals in their positions in the Minster.
