Jean Michel Moreau

"Le Festin royal" (The royal feast), 1789

About the object

The French king and queen Louis XVI and Marie-Antoinette celebrate the birth of the Crown Prince. Every detail of the festivities seems to have been observed. In addition to its documentary function, this print was also propaganda: it was intended to illustrate the grandeur and might of the monarchy in terms of a secure succession to the throne.
