The Crucifixion, 1590/1595

About the object

The painter, who probably came from Cologne and was trained in the Netherlands, came to Freiburg in 1590. Whilst here in Freiburg, he paianted the altarpiece for the chapel of the Basler Hof, exile seat of the Basel cathedral chapter. The frame, which does not belong to the original altar, is probably of Italian provenance.
