Dominik Weber
Artist’s Wife with her Small Daughter, um 1860
About the object
Sophie Weber, née Winterhalter, is depicted here together with her daughter Sophie. The fashions of the Late Biedermeier period are evident in this double portrait, for example, the pagoda sleeves trimmed with ruffles and the puffed-up hair parting. It was often the case that the artist's own family members were chosen as a motif and thus provided artist's wives with a pictorial testament they would otherwise not have received.
