About the object
A genteel couple are playing music under a tree. The lady looks at her gallant. The roebuck lying at the feet of the couple is listening to the melody. The background is dominated by the skyline of a town with a high tower. The "Five Senses" cycle of paintings takes up an allegorical theme common in the Baroque period. In this instance, love remains the trump card.
