About the object
A genteel couple is sitting at a sumptuous table in a green landscape. The gallant holds a wine glass whilst his beloved looks solely at him. The capuchin monkey is returning the gaze of the viewer. The "Five Senses" cycle of paintings takes up an allegorical theme common in the Baroque period. In this instance, love remains the trump card.
