Johann Baptist Kirner
Injured shepherd boy, 1844
About the object
The injured boy, his face contorted in pain, invites our sympathy as viewers. The mishap seems to have occurred only seconds ago. Blood runs down the fingers of the boy's left hand, the carving knife lies on the floor in front of him. The idyllic mountain landscape provides a stark counterpoint to the dramatic scene.
