About the object
The cycle of paintings from the circle around Frans Francken the Younger feature the allegorical theme of the "Five Senses", common in the Baroque period, via pairs of lovers. The women devote more attention to their partners than to sensual experience and thus pay homage to love as the greatest earthly happiness.
