Wistaria Flowers at Kameido Shrine in Tokyo, 1880 - 1889
About the object
One of the famous Tokyo sights was the Drum Bridge at Kameido Shrine surrounded by flowering wisteria. The picture was originally taken in 1880 by the photographer Adolfo Farsari. The name Drum Bridge derives from the reflection on the water, which seems to form a full circle with the bridge, resembling a round drum. Numerous representations of this site exist in various media, including woodblock prints by Hiroshige.
