Kozaburo Tamamura
The Gate of the Hachiman Shrine at Kamakura, 1875 - 1899
About the object
As this site was close to Yokohama and within the area in which foreigners were permitted to be, numerous traces of it exist in both photographic and written formats. This image has been attributed to the Japanese photographer Tamamura Kōzaburō (1856-1923?) who opened a photographic studio in Tokyo in 1874 and then moved to Yokohama in 1883, operating a very successful practice.
