Chiga Seashore in Matsushima, 1860 - 1880
About the object
From a series on the famous Matsushima Bay: an evening view of the Chiga seashore, as seen from Katsura Island. This island is famous for the woodblock print created in 1919 by Kawase Hasui (1883-1957) and also for its wide, sandy beaches, situated amidst rugged cliffs and bluffs covered with pine trees. Readily accessible from the mainland, it has become a popular tourist site.
