Raimund von Stillfried

This studio photograph features a model in the role of a samurai wearing official court apparel and his assistant who has prepared his shoes. The staged photograph is somewhat incongruous, as the samurai would not be wearing his shoes indoors. Moreover, the samurai class was abolished by the time this photograph was taken. The picture has been attributed to Baron Raimund von Stillfried (1839–1911) and was most probably taken before 1875, the year he closed his original studio.
