Woman Drawing Water, 1860 - 1880
About the object
A woman draws water from a well. It is spring and the cherry blossoms are in bloom – it is late in the season and many petals have already fallen to the ground. Judging from her tied sleeves, headscarf and apron, she is a waitress working in a tea house. The area depicted, replete with cherry blossoms, is probably an excursion spot, which accounts for the location of the establishment.
